The SUMO team had a fun yet very productive time at the IGEM 2012, held at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre recently. Together with a group of Tenaga Nasional Berhad staff, the SUMO team explored the various booths showcasing new products and technologies from around the world. From hybrid cars, to solar cells, to recycled paper furniture, this event brought together industry players, professionals and even members of the public, to interact and forge new partnerships.
This year’s event was themed ‘Greentech for Growth’ and its objective was to facilitate the rapid adoption of green technology and eco products. The four-day event drew more than 60,000 visitors and showcased more than 600 booths. The standout technology for this year’s event was definitely the increase in new product lines within the electric vehicle market and its associated technology (electric charging stations, battery technology, and the EV networks). Models from Proton (Saga EV/ Exora REEV), Nissan (Leaf), Mitsubishi (MiEV) and many more were on show during the event.
Additionally, there were also electric bicycles, electric buggies and even electric segways for personal transportation. Interestingly, these products are mostly made and produced in Malaysia, making prices competitive compared to international brands. All we need now is public uptake of EVs to drive prices down even further and make these electric modes of transport more affordable and convenient. Electric bike anyone?
