Europe Provides Free Access to Environmental Satellite Data by December 2013

The European Commission will provide free, full and open access to environmental data from Copernicus – Europe’s earth observation system, which will come into effect in December 2013. Under the open data distribution system, the service sector for environmental data production and distribution and even space manufacturing will benefit most from this initiative. Nevertheless, more accurate earth observation from Copernicus may provide advantages to the transport, agriculture and oil and gas sectors as well. Lastly, the open data distribution system will support citizens, businesses, researchers and policy makers to integrate environmental aspects into their activities and decision-making procedures.
