4th National Energy Forum, “Building a Framework Towards a Sustainable Energy Future”

27th September 2012

The 4th National Energy Forum organised by the Malaysian Gas Association (MGA) together with the Energy Commission of Malaysia (EC) and the Energy Council of Malaysia, was this year themed as ‘Building a Framework Towards a Sustainable Energy Future’. The forum was attended by almost 300 people (an increase from the previous year) and featured prominent speakers presenting their case studies on topics such as energy sector regulations, policies and challenges. The Minister of Energy, Green Technology and Water Malaysia, Yang BerhormatDato’ Sri Peter Chin FahKui, who officiated the event, also launched the ‘You Waste, You Pay’ campaign targeting energy conservation and demand management.

Though issues and challenges of the energy industry were highlighted and discussed, energy efficiency (EE) was the focus of the forum, in particular the Government’s National EE Master Plan, the SAVE program and policies such as minimum energy performance standards. Additionally, the government has introduced international competitive bidding within the Malaysian energy industry which is to be conducted by the EC. This step will be applied to the construction of a new combine cycle gas turbine (CCGT) of 1,000 -1,400 MW of power supply in Prai.
