Mengo Green Hunt 2013

The Malaysian Environmental Non-Governmental Organisations (Mengo) is organising an urban environment-themed treasure hunt focusing on sustainable living concepts in Kuala Lumpur. The Mengo Green Hunt 2013 aims to instil awareness and promote the use of sustainable modes of transportation while stressing the importance of leaving a low ecological footprint. The treasure hunt, to be held in conjunction with the Malaysian National Environmental Week, will see participants walking and using public transportation to solve clues and riddles.

Enviro Hunt 2013

In conjunction with Environment Day 2013, the Department of Environment Malaysia is organizing the Enviro Hunt 2013 which will start off at the Public Parking, Presint 4, Putrajaya. It is open to three categories of participation - primary school, secondary school and public. The event is organized to increase community commitment in preserving and conserving the environment.

Pesta Sayap 2013 / Festival of Wings 2013

This annual event celebrates the migration of birds flying from their winter homes to warmer climates. This natural phenomenon can be experienced on the day at the Kuala Selangor Nature Park (KSNP) who is co-organising the event with Malaysian Nature Society (MNS). Pesta Sayap 2013 includes a mangrove tour, where the public can learn more about the Malaysian mangroves as well as other fun-filled nature themed activities for all ages.

Alternative and Sustainable Transportation in Greater KL

#BetterCities will be organising a talk on alternative and sustainable transportation in Greater Kuala Lumpur. The event will be held at Genovasi (Petaling Jaya) from 10am to 12pm. The broader issue of sustainable transportation involves a myriad of factors including: amongst others public transit reliability and infrastructure, fuel prices, cost of vehicle ownership, et. al. The talk also feature a demo and highlight of two community projects: Jeffrey Lim’s Bicycle Map Project – a crowdsourced bicycle mapping project to test and recce routes to encourage a more cycle-able Kuala Lumpur; and Shaun Lim’s Orbiting, a mobile app to encourage ridesharing or carpooling in Malaysia.

The 6th Kuala Lumpur Eco Film Festival (KLEFF) 2013

The Kuala Lumpur Eco Film Festival (KLEFF) is one of the first and biggest environmental film festival in Malaysia. In the last five years, the Festival has reached out to approximately 46,000 Malaysians through its film screenings at selected venues all over the Peninsular. This year KLEFF 2013 will be held at Publika, Kuala Lumpur and will feature film screenings, workshops and talks on sustainable living, fun and creative nature craft activities for children, performances, exhibitions and fairground attractions. The KLEFF also works closely with Malaysian higher institutes of learning with the aim of assisting in the development and progression of environmental communication.
