Human – Honey Bee Interactions

A talk title Human-Honey Bee Interactions organised by Malaysia Nature Society will be given by Tom Kraft and Vivek Venkataraman from Darmouth College in New Hampshire, USA to explore the complex and long-standing relationship between honeybees and humans. The talk will be held at MNS Auditorium, MNS HQ, Kuala Lumpur and will highlight the astounding diversity of honeybee species in Peninsular Malaysia and showcase the honey harvesting practices of local peoples including their potential impact on honeybee populations and honeybee ecosystem services.

Forest’s Seed Management Workshop

18th – 20th June 2013

Forest Research Institute Malaysia (FRIM) is organising a workshop on Forest’s Seed Management to educate participants on forest repopulation through quality seed management. The three day workshop will be held at FRIM, Kepong where participants will be educated through practical and theoretical lesson plans. Participants from the public, government or private sectors with an interest for forest seed management are encouraged to attend. Certification will be awarded upon completion of the workshop. 3rd Borneo Conference and Exhibition on Occupational Safety and Health 2013

17th – 18th June 2013

This theme for this year’s conference which will be held in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah is ‘A Global Strategy: Optimising Productivity Through Accident Prevention’. This biannual conference aims to bring experts in the field of occupational safety and health (OSH) in the region as well as from overseas to share best practices and to encourage networking. It is hoped that from the conference, one of the takeaway lesson would be to enhance the quality of work by ensuring the safety and health of everyone in the work environment.

Coral Propagation Workshop

15th – 18th June 2013

Ocean Quest Malaysia is organising their 3 days 2 nights Level 1 Coral Propagation Workshop in Pulau Perhentian on 15th June 2013. The workshop is a diving trip aimed to educate the public on corals fundamental knowledge and skill for those interested in coral planting. Divers and non-divers are welcome to participate in the workshop where 5 dives will be conducted. A fee of RM 1200.00 will be charged per person excluding SCUBA rental fee. “Think.Eat.Save” World Environment Day!

8th – 9th June 2013

To celebrate World Environment Day this year, the Kota Damansara Community Forest (KDCF) Society, in cooperation with the Selangor Forestry Department and Majlis Bandaraya Petaling Jaya, will be hosting a fun-filled event to welcome the wider community to the city’s important urban forests.

The day will include forest recreation and nature education activities for the whole family, demonstrations, info stalls and presentations in line with the international World Environment Day theme of Think.Eat.Sav. The event aims to raise awareness on how much we consume and how much waste we put into the world. The theme considers how you can reduce this consumption and waste and what your household can do to make a change today.

To celebrate World Environment Day 2013, SUMO will be holding their WED/CSR 2013 Day, this Saturday, 8th June 2013. The team will be accompanying a group of children from disadvantaged backgrounds for a fun day out at Kuala Lumpur’s Zoo Negara. Approximately 35 kids will get the opportunity to spend an exciting day at the National Zoo, whilst learning about the animals, their habitats and the environment. SUMO hopes to discover some budding environmentalists and even inspire some of these kids to become environmental champions.

World Environment Day (WED) 2013 celebrates ‘Think.Eat.Save’ which is an anti-food waste and food loss campaign that encourages the reduction of one’s foodprint. By making informed decisions on food, we can all reduce food waste, reduce the environmental impact of food and force food production processes to become more efficient. Gua Kanthan & Gua Kelawar Caving Trip

I Love Our Ocean

31st May – 2nd June 2013

In conjunction with World Ocean Day, Nature Education Centre (NEC) is organizing a School Holiday Program ‘I Love Our Ocean’ from 31st May to 2nd June 2013 for children aged 7 to 15. The event includes activities such as a trip to Aquaria KLCC, Walk with Nature, Let’s Get Wet, Save the turtle, Ocean craft and more and will be held at NEC Kepong. Children will have plenty of fun learning about the wonders of the ocean. The admission fee is RM 250 (Members) and RM 270(Non-Members), with certification included.
