3rd International GreenTech and Eco Products Exhibition and Conference Malaysia (IGEM 2012)

10th -13th October 2012
The SUMO team had a fun yet very productive time at the IGEM 2012, held at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre recently. Together with a group of Tenaga Nasional Berhad staff, the SUMO team explored the various booths showcasing new products and technologies from around the world. From hybrid cars, to solar cells, to recycled paper furniture, this event brought together industry players, professionals and even members of the public, to interact and forge new partnerships.

Site visit to GreenTech Malaysia’s Green Energy Office (GEO)

As part of TNB’s Sustainability Workshop Series facilitated by SUMO, the SUMO team and a delegation of staff from Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) were recently given a tour around the Malaysia Green Energy Office (GEO) building located at Seksyen 9, Bandar Baru Bangi, Selangor (around 40 km south of Kuala Lumpur). The building is known for its energy efficiency and sustainability features, which serves to promote the adoption of sustainable green buildings in Malaysia. It is currently the headquarters for the Malaysian Green Technology Corporation (MGTC).

3rd International GreenTech and Eco Products Exhibition and Conference Malaysia (IGEM 2012)

10th-13th October 2012

IGEM 2012 promises to deliver even more exciting and emerging green technologies and products compared to events from previous years. This four-day event is expected to draw more than 60,000 visitors and showcase more than 600 booths with exhibitors from around the world. This year the event is themed ‘Greentech for Growth’ and its objective is to facilitate the rapid adoption of green technology and eco products. The event provides opportunities for industry players, professionals and even members of the public, to interact, trial, review and forge partnerships. In addition to the main exhibition, there will also be seminars, workshops, competitions, product presentations and even a green career matching service. The annual Malaysia Greentech Awards, which recognises citizens’ achievements in sustainability, renewable energy, research and development and innovation, will also be held during IGEM 2012.

4th National Energy Forum, “Building a Framework Towards a Sustainable Energy Future”

The 4th National Energy Forum organised by the Malaysian Gas Association (MGA) together with the Energy Commission of Malaysia (EC) and the Energy Council of Malaysia, was this year themed as ‘Building a Framework Towards a Sustainable Energy Future’. The forum was attended by almost 300 people (an increase from the previous year) and featured prominent speakers presenting their case studies on topics such as energy sector regulations, policies and challenges. The Minister of Energy, Green Technology and Water Malaysia, Yang BerhormatDato’ Sri Peter Chin FahKui, who officiated the event, also launched the ‘You Waste, You Pay’ campaign targeting energy conservation and demand management.

Driving in the future

We were taken on a test drive of the car of the future. It’s silent and has no emissions. We love it.

The UNITEN EV team modified a Proton Saga into a full electric vehicle and will compete with several other universities for the top prize in the PROTON Green Mobility Challenge (PGMC 2012) that will be held on 4-7 October 2012.
